External Prostate Massage

Posted by Dave Lee on

Prostate stimulation and massage is beginning to lose some of the stigma and negativity that has surrounded it for many years. Some men though, are still not comfortable with inserting things into their anus. Whether it is due to gay stereotypes, religious reasons, or just plain being uncomfortable with it, don’t worry! You can still massage the prostate without putting anything inside you.

This kind of prostate massage is called external prostate massage. While most people will agree that it usually won’t be as effective as a direct, internal prostate massage, you can still experience great benefits if you learn the right techniques for an external massage. Once you experience some of the sensations from this, it might even encourage you to go a little further and move onto internal massage.

How Can You Reach the Prostate Externally?

So the first obvious question is how can you reach an internal gland, from outside your body? The perineum is the key to this.

The perineum is the area of skin between a man’s scrotum and his anus. Some people more crudely refer to it as the taint or the gooch. A man’s prostate is located above this skin, a little way inside his body. Massaging the perineum indirectly stimulates the prostate gland.

Where Do You Massage?

This is a key point as hitting the wrong spot won’t accomplish much at all. The perineum basically has two halves. At the front, it covers the penile bulb, which is the inner ending of the penis. At the rear there is a softer area which covers a lot less flesh and muscles. This is the area is your easiest gateway to the prostate.

Some people are also able to stimulate their prostate externally from slightly different angles. If you have an erection, try placing your fingers on one side of the shaft underneath your scrotum. You’re feeling for a lump which you might initially think is just the inner shaft of the penis, but if you begin to rub it you’ll feel something different from regular penis stimulation. You can approach from either side, so just have a feel around and find what works best for you.

What Will It Feel Like?

It might be a little difficult for you to actually know if you’re hitting the right area of your body when you first try to perform a prostate massage externally. If you aren’t sure that you’re hitting the right area, one particular feeling you’re looking for is a sudden need to urinate. That might not feel like a good feeling to pursue when trying to sexually stimulate yourself, but trust me on this.

The prostate is responsible for controlling the flow of urine or ejaculate out of the body, and will never let both happen at the same time. An intense feeling that you need to, or are going to urinate means that you’re touching the right area. Don’t worry, you wont actually be able to urinate while massaging, so keep pressing forward with your massage.

What to Do If You’ve Found the Right Area?

Well, you just need to rub! What you like will come down to your own personal preferences, so you’ll need to do some experiments and find the things that you enjoy the most. Some people prefer a gentle stroking, others might like a circular motion, and some look for something with a little more pressure and tension. If you need any ideas, it could be worth checking out any kind of massage guide and trying out some of the techniques on the area.

Don't Be Too Rough!

The only real key point that will be universal is that you don’t want to be too vigorous with your prostate. It’s a very sensitive gland, and rough and powerful movements can cause some serious damage if you aren’t careful. If any of the motions that you’re performing become very irritating, or even painful, then you should stop and have a break to allow your prostate to recover.

When Things Get a Bit Wet…

If you find the spot and have found a technique you enjoy, then after a little while you might notice a little leakage. This should be kind of milk colored and quite runny, a bit like thinner ejaculation. Remember that feeling of needing to pee I mentioned earlier? This is what that was.

Your prostate will naturally store a lot of these liquids in preparation for when you need them during ejaculation. By massaging the prostate you allow many of these liquids to clear out, ridding yourself of any bacteria that might have built up alongside them. There might be a lot, so having some towels or tissues on hand can be a good idea to save some cleanup later on.

Ridding yourself of these fluids is one of the main reasons people partake in prostate massage and is often called “milking”. It carries a lot of health benefits and can even work towards preventing prostate cancer later in life. For more info on this, check out our article on the health benefits of prostate milking.

The Big O

For some lucky people, the ability to have prostate orgasms can open up a whole new world of sexual pleasure. While it is difficult to achieve this through external massage, it still is possible. How each man achieves this will be different and unique to them, so if you make it to orgasm then be sure to remember what you did so you can repeat it next time. If you’re struggling, or determined to reach orgasm, we have some tips that might help.

Anything Else I Should Know?

Not really. Prostate massage is quite a simple process, especially when performing it externally. Most men should perform a prostate massage fairly regularly throughout their lives if they want to maintain a good level of prostate health. It feels good too, so you really have no excuses for this one!
